Winter Musts

STAPLE-SPLURGE-STEAL: My Fall & Winter Musts

Guys! I’m snuggled under a blanket this morning drinking coffee with the heat on! I have to say, as much as I adore summertime warmth, the coziness of Autumn is always so nostalgic and welcomed.

The leaves change, we turn our crock pots on, the air becomes crisp… and lips crack. And hands and feet and elbows too. The worst! So, as a beauty expert and supple skin-lover, I do dutifully swear to keep us all moisturized and glowing this Fall/Winter season. Remember guys! Keeping skin full of moisture is one of the best anti-aging combatants there is, and it is way easier to be preventative than to reverse aging later.

I love alliteration: Staple. Splurge. Steal. BAM! OKAY.. READYSETGO!

STAPLE: Want to find a potion you will want to use forever?

Elizabeth Arden 8 Hour Cream – A dear friend who’s been modeling for 15 years (and still KILLING IT!) turned me on to this stuff and I’ve never looked back. It touted “8 hours” and I didn’t believe it because I’m a skeptic. BUT.IT’S.TRUE. I use it every single day. My favorite time to use it is at night. When I’m climbing into bed I smear this amazingness on my lips (and sometimes cuticles) and often will wake up in the morning and it’s still on. What?! Since using 8 Hour Cream regularly, I can’t remember the last time I’ve had chapped lips. I will surely use this forever, and ever amen.

(P.S I’ve had this size tube for a year, and I’m only 1/2 way thru it.)

SPLURGE:  Ready to invest a little more in a face cream that will change your life?

Ceramidin Cream by Dr. Jart– I got a sample of this in my monthly Birchbox a few months ago. It was a tough decision for me to purchase a $50 face cream (because I’m frugal), but the more experience I have with creams, the more I realize quality is totally worth the price. I mean, this is your skin- it ain’t going anywhere! 65 year old Kirsten is going to be really glad I decided at a young age to invest in her! The technology in Ceramidin hydrates from the inside out, creating a barrier to keep moisture locked in. My skin feels instantly plump and glowing, I seriously look forward to getting to use this at night. (Lame-o!) To top it all off it is Paraben, Sulfate & Phthalate FREE!

STEAL: Need something that’s brag worthy, but only want to give up an Abraham Lincoln ($5!!)?

Palmer’s Coco Butter (Jar not bottle)– At $5, I don’t think you have anything to lose on this one. Ever since I picked this up one time while traveling, nothing in this price range, or even $10 more, has quite compared to the long-lasting effects of this stuff. I’ve used both the jar and the bottle versions, and the jar kicks the bottle’s butt. The jar has more of an oil-base feel (which I’m partial to) and lasts way longer; the bottle version is a cream but isn’t as luxurious or long-lasting. I tend to be a nighttime shower-er, so a lovely coat of this stuff before bed is a DCT (dream come true).

In addition to using these, I regularly exfoliate. It’s crucial in the colder months to keep your skin renewing itself,  1-2 times per week give your body and face a gentle scrub. My personal fav is a little baking soda + water!

Do you guys have any recommendations? I’m a cream/serum/lotion junkie so fill me in on products you love too. I’ll give ’em a whirl!
